Collected here are some twenty articles resulting from the reading and study of the Lives of Saints from the 6th to the 9th century. Archaeology, the fruit of prospecting missions in Bithynia, is not neglected either. Two texts are edited, translated and commented on, the Life of John of Gothia and the Martyrdom of the XLII of Amorion, BHG 1212. The collection is diverse since it addresses subjects such as economy, wandering, holiness and the women, the attitude towards miracles as well as the beards of holy monks. But this diversity tends to show a univocal evolution between the 6th and the 10th centuries, from the richness of a lived holiness to the norm of codified holiness of the Synaxaria. A movement inscribed in history that caused holiness to migrate from reality to liturgy.
