L’histoire des iconoclastes

Nineteen papers written between 1981 and 2005, dealing with several aspects of the iconoclasm (730-843) with the exception of monastic life and hagiography. The history of the iconoclasts is known to us only through the history written by the iconodoules after their own victory. After studying the reasons and methods of the iconodoules to annihilate the memory of their opponents, the fearless constructions of various institutions to exclude this past from their history are reviewed. We so find, beneath the caricature, the real features of the iconoclasts.
