Chroniques d’épigraphie byzantine

Reedition, revised and augmented with eighty unpublished notes, of one thousand notes published on a regular basis in the Bulletin épigraphique (Revue des études grecques), reporting twenty years of discoveries and studies on Christian and Byzantine Greek epigraphy : classified by provinces and by cities, from Greece to the Middle East, including here Christian Egypt – thanks to the significant participation of Jean Bingen – and Greek inscriptions of the Western world. Two chapters collect inscriptions other than on stone, and thematic studies. An index of Greek words and a general index reflect many aspects of the Christian Empire, from the cult of the saints to the episcopal annals, the governors of provinces to the chronological systems, the fashion of the epigram to connections between epigraphy and literary sources.
